The Only Denim Trends That Matter in 2019

March 7, 2019 • By

Our jeans have been there with us through it all. The ups and downs of life, the girls’ nights, the breakups, there’s no denying that our jeans are always there when we need them. 2019 is no different. For whatever is in store for you this year, that perfect pair of jeans will take center stage in your daily life. This post is to help prepare you for the coming trends and returning denim fashion, so you can make 2019 the year you had the perfect pair of denim jeans.

Let’s take a peek at what will be popular in the world of denim in 2019. Here are a few of the top trends:

90’s Style

“90’s Style” is back and better than ever. The silhouettes for 2019 have us obsessing over ’90s looks, from baggy jeans to sky-high rises, to colors we haven’t seen for a while. These 90’s trends refuse to be ignored!

High-Waist

Like other 90’s inspired trends, high-waist jeans will continue to reign as a classic style, and this year we’re seeing it being taken to the next level with flared hems, embellishment, and distressed details.

Boyfriend

Like the high-waist, this 90’s inspired trend is making a quick comeback, but with a twist. You can expect to see added details, such as distress, cuffed hems, and more embellishment details!

Straight Leg Cut

In the past year, cropped and distressed hemlines made waves in the denim pant industry, but a trend to notice in the coming year is the extended, ankle-grazing hem and cigarette leg. A little different than your average skinny jeans, this style offers a bit more breathing room … and is super comfortable to wear every day, as well as out on the town. You can pair these styled jeans with cowboy boots for a western-style, or sneakers for a more casual look. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

Hem Details

Who said hems have to be plain, old, original hems? Why can’t hems be studded, frayed, asymmetrical, or anything you want for that matter? Well, this year is ALL about the new and improved hems. We are seeing many different styles emerging in 2019 and we certainly aren’t complaining. From mismatched-seams to studded hems, we are loving them all!

Pin Tucks

Pin Tucks are doing nothing but helping us out this year. Right down the center of the leg, pin tucks help make our legs look slimmer and more elongated. You’ll definitely turn some heads this year while wearing these jeans.

Ribbon

Sometimes, it’s something as little as adding patches or ribbons that get us all excited about wearing a new pair of jeans. This new ribbon trend is certainly giving plain jeans a fresh spring look.

Charcoal Wash

And let’s not forget denim colors and washes. It appears that various shades of grey denim are making a huge comeback. The return of this 90’s trend of charcoal wash, that color that’s just in-between jet black and grey, should be as much a staple in your 2019 wardrobe as your classic blue jeans.

To get you started, we’ve included some of our favorite styles that fit all the fashion bullet points above. Click on the images to see more … and may 2019 be your best year yet!

Knowing Your Niche In 2019

January 4, 2019 • By

Finding your “niche” can prove to be challenging and intimidating. But in reality, is it?  What is a niche? Can you only have one, or many niches? Can your niche change as you grow and evolve over time? Are we all just overthinking the idea of finding a niche, when in reality, it’s quite simple?

I thought, what better way to get the answers I needed, than to simply interview people to ask their thoughts and opinions on the matter.

The three questions I asked each individual were:

  1. What is your definition of a “niche”?
  2. If you have one, what do you think is your “niche” in life?
  3. And what does having a “niche” mean to you, if anything?

Here are some of the responses:

“I think my niche is managing to find the positive in (almost) all situations. Having a niche means finding the place where you feel most comfortable or confident in a situation or environment.”

-McKenzie Butler

“I think my niche would be what I’m most passionate about, and then striving to become the best I can at it by learning as much as I can about whatever: shoes, sales, cooking, dance … that’s how I thrive!”

-Jamie Samel

“I think of “niche” as your purpose in life or something you were meant to do. My niche in life is to just spread kindness even when kindness isn’t presented. I can show kindness by going the extra mile to show I care. I think having a niche is important because it’s almost like a little banner that’s constantly hung up in your head/heart. You have these banners hanging up in the back your mind and that’s the reminder to keep true to yourself and to keep pushing yourself even though it may be hard.”

-Kylie Nichelle

“I think having a niche is genuinely just about finding people who make you happy and who bring out the best in you. My niche is so diverse with different personalities and interests.  I love every single person in my friend group for who they are, and for allowing our differences to bring out aspects of one another we couldn’t explore on our own. I don’t think there’s a secret to finding the right “niche” that fits you. It’s all about finding people who are loyal to you, and without a doubt, make you the happiest version of yourself.”

-Kenzie Karnes

After reading through the replies, I realized there is no ONE niche. It’s different for everyone. I also discovered a few patterns that helped me form a list of things to think about when discovering your niche.

  1. Try to identify your passions
  2. Be proactive in working toward that which makes you happy
  3. Be open to new ideas

A new year is often time for contemplation about one’s life and one’s direction. It can be a turning point. The perfect time for self-examination and a time to identify where we fit into this life. Entering 2019 and not knowing who you are or what you want to do in life can be nerve-wracking, but it doesn’t have to be! Trying to discover my “niche,” my calling in life, has helped me examine my dreams and my expectations, and has given me strength to step forward into the new year.

2019 is the perfect time to find your niche. Choose to be whoever you want to be. Get out of your conformity zone. Take care of your health. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Laugh. Cry. Spread positivity. Whether you’re the badass Rocker-Chic girl, or the trendy Girl-Next-Door, accept that you’re unique and go your own direction.  But, don’t forget to look fashionable while doing it!

  • Step 4: Laugh each and every day!  The expression “laughter is the best medicine” is nothing to laugh about! It’s true! Research shows that there is a decrease in stress hormones, a reduction in artery inflammation and an increase in HDL, or the “good” cholesterol when we laugh. Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, cardiologist and director of women and heart disease at the New York City Lenox Hill Hospital said,  “Once you start laughing, it forces you to feel better,” said Dr. Steinbaum, who is also a spokeswoman for the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement. An added bonus: the positive effects of a good chuckle have been found to last 24 hours. Now that’s the kind of medicine we love!

I Resolve to (try to) Keep My Resolutions!

January 9, 2017 • By

Start on January 1

Okay … we’re two weeks into the New Year ! Are your resolutions still holding? Well, if not, don’t kick yourself. It appears that only 8% of those who make promises to themselves actually keep them! So how do they do it? Why do some succeed while so many of us fail?

Studies show (yes, there are actually studies done on the “keeping of resolutions”) there are four steps to success:

  1. Keep it Simple
  2. Make it Tangible
  3. Make it Obvious
  4. Keep Believing You Can Do It

KEEP IT SIMPLE: Set small, reasonable goals that can be achieved one step at a time. This time honored “kiss” will remind you:

MAKE IT TANGIBLE: Your goal/s should be based on rational targets. Not “I’ll lose weight,” but rather “I’ll lose 10 pounds.” Not “I’m going to write my book,” but rather break a larger goal into steps: Step 1: “I’m going to prepare the outline for my book” … and when you reach your first goal, set Step 2: “I’m going to write the introduction or chapter one,” etc. According to John Norcross, Professor of Psychotherapy at the University of Scranton, “We say if you can’t measure it, it’s not a very good resolution because vague goals beget vague resolutions.”

resolution-chart

MAKE IT OBVIOUS: Post a chart of your progress as a daily reminder. Or, like blogger Julia in the movie, JULIE AND JULIA and the original blog: Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen, make your pledge public. Use social media and let friends and family know your goal … they can help you keep on track. We all need support from time-to-time and your BFF may be that perfect someone who can keep you from slipping.

KEEP BELIEVING YOU CAN DO IT: Have faith in yourself! Willpower can carry you through … but here’s something you should know about willpower. Psychological studies show that willpower, a “mind-body reaction to choice,” can get depleted. Fatigue can set it. “A growing body of research shows that resisting repeated temptations takes a mental toll. Some experts liken willpower to a muscle that can get fatigued from overuse.” On the positive side, willpower is a renewable resourse. You can essentially “re-boot” it.  Essentially, if you believe you have the strength to reach your goal, you will. I’m reminded of a quote I learned as a child:  “If you will it, it is no dream.”

Wishing you all a healthy and happy 2017, and success in keeping your resolutions!
